Linking to your 4POS system remotely.
« on: November 27, 2016, 07:05:00 PM »
Been searching for this & seems we have not discussed this on the forum....

There are 3 ways to connect to your 4POS system from a remote location.

Eg. You might want to work from home...

1. A remote support program like Teamviewer allows you to "take over" the pc over the internet. You would need Teamviewer on both locations. This is a free solution & would allow you to do all functions from your remote pc. The disadvantage is that as stated, you "take Over" the pc which you are connected to. That means that if that is the selling POS, you will interfere with their tasks. (better to do after closing time)

Ps. You could also use Remote Desktop - built into your Windows system)

2. Teamviewer VPN - This is a "Virtual Private Network" meaning that you can connect your 4POS system to your POS system & access the database as if you are sitting in the office next door. You become part of your own private network.

You would need a FAST ADSL or better (LTE or Fibre) to connect. a 3G connect is simply not good enough! To open the 4POS Connection will take more than 15 minutes!)

3. 4POSEnterprise

A cost effective way of modifying prices from your own PC (or HQ). These prices can then be uploaded to the 4POS Cloud & downloaded at branch level.

Costs will change but in 2016 we charge only R100 per branch. Yes, you would need a registered version of 4POS at your home / HQ.

4POS is currently evaluating the need to create the following feature :

Ability to store the 4POS database on our cloud..

This implies :

1. The ability to the POS at the store to sell without interruption (As it currently does)
2. Ability to load 4POS on your remote office of home pc / laptop (With a seperate licence)
3. Ability therefore to have your FULL backoffice options running from your remote pc. This includes GRV's, Reports, Dayends, Customer reports. (Like having your backoffice remotely)

The cloud service will cost you a monthly fee as we would need to pay for the database storage.... Costs will be determined based on # of users that would be interested in this.

Tested & works well...

We need 100 users to confirm so we we can allocate the appropriate server space on a FAST server...

Hi there. This sounds very interesting and safer for shop owners to have their database stored offsite. Please keep me posted with regards to this.

New idea for 4POSEnterprise :

Scenario :

You have 1 "office" / Main computer (Now called "Office") & a remote or multiple remote pc's.

Assume you have a pc at home or your main office where you do all your admin. You have a shop running 1 terminal - or even multiple terminals remotely...

You still need 1 x 4POS licence per pc.

But...

You will now configure all your licences on your "Office" for all terminals.

1. These terminals will be marked as 4POSEnterprise terminals.
2. Each can have the same or individual warehouses.

So, on the "Office" you will do all admin, promotions, stock control, GRV's in other words - ALL 4POS admin tasks!

You can then "upload" changes to 4POSEnterprise server - this will automatic if any terminals selected as 4POSEnterprise terminals & be part of your standard Update POS process.

Changes will be stored in the cloud.. for download by the terminals.

Now for the terminals - All sales to be recorded as normal. (If you are using 4POSTouch, your 4POSTouch will be configured as "Always run offline")

At time of cashup - transactions will be used to calculate takings & cashup performed. An upload to the cloud will be done automatically & POS will be ready for next day / next shift transactions!

Back at your "Office" - all sales transactions will be downloaded & updated as if the POS terminal is a local terminal! One dayend with all relevant sales & stock figures will still be available.
