Customers who are using the latest version (SQL) have requested the possiblity of a larger order Number on the Customer slip, the kitchen printer has a nice large number however on the customer slip this number is very small. Customers waiting for their Pizza orders for instance don't know or cant see their number when it is called out.

Question from a customer :

I have not been able to do any database repair after your last login? When I want to do it by the maintenance i get this error when I want to go in.after ok, i do the data repair but  nothing pops up after, no database repair done or anything. I want to do a repair, I keep getting errors on the controller.

Answer :

Your system is now running a Microsoft Sequel database & no longer a Microsoft acees database so 4POSMaintenance no longer works.

If you are getting errors on your 4POSController that refers to MsSql problems, it is most likely due to the Mssql “service” that has stopped.

This is often due to your computer going to sleep or the HDD that has gone to sleep. Ensure your power management is totally turned off - in fact go into advanced & check all the options especially for HDD)

1.   Restart your PC
2.   Open the 4POSBackoffice to ensure the Sql service is running (The 4POSBackoffice will force the service to restart)
3.   Open the Controller
4.   If that still fails – (which I doubt) : Control panel – administrative tools – services – go to Sql Server 2012 & restart.

So lots of aggravation, threats etc about the upgrades so let us try to put things in perspective :

From a Customer :

I don’t want the update, because 4pos alway works perfectly without update.  Could you please teach me to disable the automatic update option.
Regards frank

Our reply :

You can simply cancel when prompted…

We are not going to disable the upgrade options as we are improving on functionality….

For example, some of our customers are now reaching the magical number of 32,878 GRV’s in their database so we had to change that.

You will possibly also get an error in the future due to that. Without the upgrade you will email & we would not know what version you are running & whether an issue has been resolved….

So, 20 emails later we will simply tell you to upgrade….

So, no change…

We have customers that run versions from 2002, 2007 etc. Every day we receive emails with “errors” then to find out that it is an issue that was resolved years ago!

Can you imagine how many thousands of times we had to do a "repair" on an old MsAcess database? We have given - free of charge - a MsSql database as part of 4POS.

Any tech can testify that this is a MAJOR improvement...

On the whole Windows 7 service pack 1 scenario :

If Microsoft Sql server 2012 cannot install, it will not create the database.

Suggest you click on Windows update either way & ensure there are NO other updates that has not been done....

Sometime you have to do this a couple of times as our youtube video explains...

First question would be did you install version 18.6.4 on the tills?

Might be that your POS machines still point to the old database...

Any other "guesses" we cant do other than to login.

Currently 900 customers are running / have converted to the sql version since January 2018.

Support contract holders get the support - others have to pay for a teamviewer session...

I have done the latest upgrade and since then my 2 tills keep printing the same cashup totals at the end off every day. the domain controller also does not clear and i cannot run a day end. I have run utilities/ fix POS/declaration link in back office and can then do a day end  ( it shows nothing in this day end report, empty) but the totals remain the same on the tills when i run cashup. when I do a x reading it shows the correct amount but when i cashup its still the old( wrong) total. how do you clear/reset the till? where is the database on the till and can it be cleared or reset or what should I do?

What a mission to convert right?

Not true! Every customer we assist with the conversion makes the same basic mistakes!

Steps now in words seeing that customers simply don't watch the step by step video that we made :

1. Ensure you are running Windows 7 Service pack or better - meaning Windows 8, Windows 10 - any Versions...
2. If you are running Windows 7 :
2.1. Go into your control panel & click on System. If it states Windows 7 but NOT Service Pack 1 - you need to update your Windows
2.2. In the Control panel - Click on Windows update & do the updates! Even if it installs updates, go back & check if it states Services pack 1 - if not - click update again!
2.3. On some PC's you need to do this a few times - call Bill Gates & tell him it is a stupid idea - not us....

3. Now finally, once you have the latest Windows update - run the CD4POS.exe you have downloaded.
4. This will run smoothly & also might restart your pc - if so, restart & run it again unitil 4POS is installed!
5. Now open the 4POSBackoffice & ensure the conversion of Microsoft Access to Microsoft Sql completes.
6. If ANY errors pop up - NO, we cannot just know what the issue is - on some databases it is passwords, corruption, missing / faulty tables / duplicate records etc etc. We don't KNOW....
7. Well you are one of the lucky ones that get to pay us a measly R800 to sort out your database. & NO, we didn't design it that way to make some money - trust us - we have better things to do!
(On some PC's we have to copy the database to our PC's because you don't have Microsoft Access or many other possibilities!)

8. Lastly - once you have installed, converted & got your 4POSBackoffice open - Check your data!!!!

In quite a few cases, we assisted through all the steps only to find customers in their wisdom has copied OLD data back - some from December 2017! Now, of course "someone" must have done that...

Lastly - come on people, where did the kindness go? What is all this aggression about?

Want to complain - call your mother - she will be kind enough to listen - we are only here to help with 4POS ....

Obviously a very frustrated Admin.....
