Very slow starting of Backoffice on Workstations
« on: June 29, 2012, 11:41:09 PM »
My client has Main PC with 7 workstations and has been running for 32 months with very little problem until now. When Backoffice is started on Server the 'Load Report' routine takes about 10 to 15 seconds to started which I feel is normal, however when Backoffice is opened on a Workstation it takes around 15 MINUTES or more to open. ( When I say open I mean for it to start the 'Loading reports' routine.
When it opens however the Backoffice works fine with its normal speed.
I have tested the Network by coping large files from the Server to Workstation and vice versa and performance is fine. The 4POSSCAN works flawlessly on all workstations. I have run Compact & repair on the Database and the Pricing file has dropped from 800mb to 110mb. The Version by the way is 12.4.
I have even gone as far as to Try a new Server and this made not the slightest difference
I have also disabled Anti-Virus Programs, setup exclusions of the 4POS and 4POSSERVER folders with no visible improvment........any ideas would be much appreciated.

Problem has been sorted out by Markus. He said I should try a Month end and the Compact and Reapir the Database, which I did with Access. Problem seems to be totally sorted out.

FYI

4POS stores all transactions in your c:\4posserver\pricing.mdb file. If a customer does NOT run a monthend - this file becomes HUGE & is thus difficult to open, read all the tables & build reports.

It is therefore critical to do your day-ends & monthends on time rather than just going on forever. If you are running a VERY busy supermarket - more than R20,000,000 per month, you may have to do month-end more than once a month. - Just remember that your Debtors & creditors Age-ing will then be out.

Hello,

You suggested to run monthend run more than once for a busy store to make the backoffice faster, how do you run the monthend run before monthend? On my side if I try to run monthend run its saying "The server has no point of sale transactions since the last time this month end run procedure was run".
Pls help on this one as the system has never run month end for the past 6months

I suggest you run c:\4posupgrades\4POSMaintenance.exe & select Fix POS Declaration links.

The do 1 sale, cashup, dayend & then monthend.

6 Months without a monthend......????

I would expect the monthend to run for a LONG time!
