4pos Till very slow when connected to domain controller
« on: October 11, 2012, 08:07:40 AM »
Hi, when the domain controller is running, the 4pos till take ages to do a sale. If I close the domain controller, the till works fine. Both till and back-office pc's are dual core with 2Gig RAM running Windows XP SP2. Connected via Gig network and no other computers are on the network. Please help me some pointers to what to do.

Hi, the network speed is 100%. I use a 10/100/1000 un-managed GIG Switch. I also tested with a normal 10/100 switch. Also tried a managed switch but still the same problem. The antivirus I use is ESET NOD32 and the 4pos folders are excluded on both machines. The firewall is also disabled on both machines. I have a licence for the backoffice and 2x tills, but I currently only use the one till, the second till is not connected at present as I am waiting for the hardware. Both tills are on the backoffice, but till 2 is disabled for now. I also tried enabling it in the backoffice but still the same issue. I disabled the 2nd till again to see if it will work but no luck. The names of the tills in the backoffice is plain and simple called POS1 and POS2. The machine name is also called POS1. This only happen if the domain controller is running. The path from the till to the server is correctly pointing also. I deleted the path on the till and pointed it again to the server. When the domain controller is active, till 1 operates normaly for a while, but then it get very very slow for a minute or 2 and then fast again. The OS was freshly loaded with all drivers etc. I also tried turning of the building of sets and deposits, but no improvement. All I can do the speed up the sales is to close the domain controller and start it every 30 min to pull the data from the pos1 and close it again.

Let us log in to you system to see. It is not an obvious problem & I do not believe it is the controller causing the delay.

This I discovered that if you do not allow to sell negative stock, the till becomes very slow in processing transactions. That is why its faster when not linked to the domain controller.
To simple solve your problem, allow negative stock

 :o

When an item is marked to NOT allow to go into negative, the system OBVIOUSLY has to link to the database & check the current stock level....

That is what makes it slower......
